Hello Hedgehogs!

I wish everyone a happy new year in 2021! A huge welcome and thank you to all the new hedgehogs that joined us in 2020!

Let's take a look back on the development progress for Hedgehog Creek!

If you didn't know already I started the development of this game in June 2020 during the first UK lockdown. I had always wanted to create an online multiplayer world game and now I had time to work on a cool project! My main goal was for the world to be accessible to people around the world using mobile or desktop devices and for it to be a fun place for people to enjoy.

I was working many hours a day to make a simple prototype (that wasn't multiplayer). I had to build the basics of a simple shape moving around the screen. It's important to work and reach small milestones. Often many times I would scrap the code and rebuild it. Once I had a basic character moving around the screen and a chat bubble I could then move on and create the server that syncs the state of the world to the other web clients connected to the server. Here is an old screenshot before the hedgehogs were added!

After many months of coding, designing and planning I was able to launch a stable version of hedgehogcreek.com to the public in early November 2020. Here are some updates since the first launch.

November 2020:

• The first release to the public.
• Customise your Hedgehog with the inventory.
• Room switching with the addition of Village room.
• Chat moderation.
• Chat to other hedgehogs.
• First minigame 'Coffee Collection' added. Including a leaderboard page to see top scores!
• New clothing items added.
• Many bugs were fixed.

December 2020:

• Coffee Collection was updated to version 0.2. The update included a completely new code rebuild of the game and more variety and features.
• First-ever event! The holiday event introduced decorated rooms.
• New clothing items added.
• Many bugs were fixed.
• I can't wait to bring more updates in 2021. I have many ideas! Until then... Keep well!
